Would I lie to you?
by slimboyfat ingiven recent posts on the forum and discussion, maybe we could play this game: would i lie to you?
in the uk we have this tv programme where minor celebrities tell weird or embarrassing stories about themselves and the rest of the participants have to guess if it is a true story or made up.
when the others have voted then the person reveals if the story is true or false.

@Anders Andersen: I think the first one is true. I would be really shocked if it would be the second. (And if that's the case, did you feel guilty back then? ๐ณ Or could you really relax and see that stuff and have no fear of Jehovah knowing what you did?) -

Who thinks Wt is going to throw Vincent Tool under the bus if he loses his law registration.
by joe134cd injust read speculation about this on another thread.
who thinks vincent tool, if looses his law license and becomes less useful to wt that he will then be reassigned to the field.
or is he just to big of a player to lose even with out a practicing law license.

If YOU had to make the decision, would you respect a JW relatives wish to refuse a blood transfusion?
by nicolaou ina few years after i quit the meetings my mum needed her medical directive signed and witnessed and she asked if i'd do it.
i was surprised to say the least!.
i think she was just angling to include me and maybe find some lever to get me involved again.

I will respect choices of people as long as they do not cause danger/harm for other people.
If you see someone collapse, not breathing, no heartbeat, and you want to rescue him, and find out he carries a 'no resuscitate' (DNR) would you respect that?

How do you tell your spouse you no longer believe in God?
by Darkknight757 inso i was hoping to get some insight on this subject of telling your spouse that you no longer believe in god.
for two people who have been jehovahs witnesses for 20 years together, talking about this seems to be real hard for me.
i still pray with my wife before meals but that's about it.

I didn't tell.
I told him about the things I found out, 11 years ago. In order that would be: 607 BS err..BC. Watchtower NGO UN. Abuse within the Borg. I wondered about the FDS too, because it was an illustration. And so on....
Because I couldn't believe JW stuff anymore I would do fieldservice with the Bible only, no JW litterature. But after a while I couldn't talk to people about paradise (where the hell does the bible promise us a paradise in future?) and I didn't see the logic in talking to strangers about my belief, while the elders had told me not to share my thoughts with my brothers and sisters. I stopped giving answers at the meetings. I refused shepherd calls in our house.
(At that thime I told my brother about this stuff too. He (JW) told me to be wise and don't overreact and don't do a stupid thing (like writing a letter) or something. We already had two disfellowshipped siblings and if I would get out of the Borg it would complicate my relationship with other JW familymembers. So I did. I just faded. Only go to meetings (I also stopped going to one of the midweek meetings to make a point, ha, but then THEY stopped with that meeting too. ๐)
Anyway, so much for men being logic, and women about feelings, Anders Andersen. ๐What I found out is this: the people who REALLY study the bible and the WT dogmas, learn the truth very quickly. The zealous, the persons that want to prove a point to others and then find out they can't. The 'relaxed' JW may never get to that point.
So I never told anyone I don't believe anymore. If someone must know, I tell them that I have severe doubts about things, and that in the past ten years nothing has happened to make those doubts go away...and a lot to make those doubts worse.
In fact, I don't know if I believe in something, I'm just not interested anymore in all the blabla about the future. Life is NOW. Maybe there is a God, maybe not. Since I don't believe in hell, what's there to fear? And we'll die anyway, one way or another.
My husband has learned to live with this. We do best when we don't talk about religion. The last few years I sometimes can ask a question like: have you noticed the change in....'thoughts about evolution' 'thoughts about FDS and anointed' 'increase in memorial partakers' ? but he never notices these changes. ๐ณ And it seems that the other JW don't notice it either.
The best I can say is: hang on. Try to make clear that you want to fight for your marriage. It may take a couple of (hard) years. But if you want to stay together, she has no JW reason to leave; and if she is willing to leave without reason she would be as 'bad' (In JW-world) as you are and then there is no reason to leave anyway...

Wow. I can't believe this is at (or after) a convention. It looks like these are JW though, and they sing one of the newest songs, not even in the songbook.
I noticed that everyone in the audience wears a white shirt. Must be something Belgian? In my (close to Belgium) country brothers can wear shirts in any color they like, although 'only white' has been the rule for a long time...in the fifties or so.
My first idea is that this must have been at a wedding, but wow, a choir at your wedding to sing kingdom songs? And the 'we are family sign' in front of the stage seems not so wedding-like. So I think the video really must be what it claims to be...

Is the Pioneer School being eliminated?
by wannaexit ini heard from the semi reliable source that the pioneer schools will go the way of the dodo bird next year.. i could see this happening.
it used to be that you went to the the pioneer school once.
then they allowed dubs to go every 5 years.

I read a thread here recently about how the 'theocratic school' had to be renamed (christian life and work, or something like that), possibly because 'schools' will be under extra attention or will have to meet certain standards.
Maybe that's why they change/quit everything with the 'school' part in it?
However, I'm curious how they will do it in some countries... i remember that in some countries (Mexico?) WTBS claims to be a SCHOOL because that saves them money, while in other countries they claim to be a RELIGION for the same reason.

This whole 'entitled to know the truth' thing teached me a lot about how to deal with JW. (I'm a fader btw)
I just live my life, and no, that's not a 'double life', it's my life!
I think JW don't have the right to know the truth about what I do when I'm not in the KH so I don't tell. ๐ And by their own standards, that's not lying.
Happy Birthday an Merry Christmas!

A Tug on the Leash (The Authority Which the GB Wields Over the R&F)
by Oubliette inrecently, several comments have been made in various threads in reference to some of the recent changes to a few of the rules by which jehovah's witnesses must live their lives in unquestioning compliance.
the assertion has been made that these rules are a "relaxing" of previous restrictions.
the suggestion has been made that this somehow indicates a corresponding relaxing or loosening or lessening of the authority which the governing body (gb) holds over the rank and file (r&f) members of the religion.

Best post I read here.
Only last week a JW friend, confronted with blood issues, and a doctor that asked about why blood fractions but not blood, answered the doctor: 'In fact it's not about the blood, it's about obedience.' So, she gets it, but still doesn't understand the truth of this!
(And also, attending meetings twice a week and learning nothing new but just chewing on the same things over and over again is only about obedience. You're not there to learn anything, or to give your thoughts. You're there because they tell you to.)

If a year is really 365 1/4 days why 360 days to calculate 1914
by blondie indoesn't that throw off the date?.
*** w51 6/15 p. 383 questions from readers ***.
in establishing the length of the seven times of the gentiles, a time or year of 360 days is used, to give 2,520 days, which become 2,520 years when ezekiel 4:6 is applied.

607 BC was the dealbreaker for me. I was a good biblestudent and when we studied the book of Daniel I wanted to be the one who could explain it all... Why the 'worldly history' was wrong with pointing to 587 BC as the year that Jerusalem was destroyed. So I made a timeline and wrote all the 'evidence' from the Bible on it and then I wrote everything down that is in the historybooks. To my surprise everything the historybooks say about Jerusalem fitted exactly in the story of the bible, while the explanation of the Borg needed a lot of 'well, the verse says it happens in his second year, but in fact the bible means that it happened in the twentysecond year'.
Quote: "That this method of calculating is correctly used to bring us to A.D. 1914 from 607 B.C. is confirmed for us by the physical facts that have become manifest from that year 1914 on, in fulfillment of Matthew 24 and 25, Mark 13, Luke 21, and other prophecies concerning Christโs second presence, in the time of the end."
That's just so funny. First they use a made up date for the destruction of Jerusalem to calculate up to 1914. Then they say: 'look, something special happened in 1914, so we must be right about 607BC after all' and call it evidence that their calculations are correct.
